The Wake County Sheriff describes the shooting that occurred last Tuesday morning in North Garner as a domestic dispute, according to published reports.
The incident resulted in the death of 49-year-old Garner woman June P. Carlyle. Authorities allege that Jose Manuel Valdez-Masias, 44, also of Garner, shot Carlyle in the face and then shot himself. He remains alive and has been charged with murder.
The incident happened outside of Carlyle’s home at 800 Creech Road.
In response, authorities placed nearby Creech Road Elementary School under a brief lockdown before most students arrived.
Services for Carlyle are scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
