Ray Price Harley Davidson is a community business that invests in the community through a variety of fundraisers. This time it was the Brunswick stew cook-off.

Area teams competed for prize money and bragging rights for the best stew. The teams had pitched their tents and teased the area residents around Maywood Avenue with the mouth-watering aromas of their simmering stews.

The Hogs-R-Us cook team from Garner was excited about competing. Gary and Lisa Burke manned the cooking tent and had spent the previous night cooking a hog to use in the stew.

Unfortunately, the Garner team came up short this year. The Old Hickory cook team from Corinth-Holder took first place. Second place went to Wake Forest resident Tom Price with his Grillzilla cooker, and third place went to Ron Strickland of Durham with his Stricklystew cook team.

The audience could sample each stew for a donation of $5. The fundraiser garnered over $1,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network. On hand to accept the check for the charity was Stan Simmerson, a clinical research coordinator at Duke Hospital.
