The Garner Police Department fielded the following calls between Monday, March 9 and Sunday, March 15:
Burglaries
Authorities are investigating several break-ins that have occurred since Jan. 22 in the Hunter’s Mark subdivision. Nothing was stolen on Tuesday, March 10 during two attempted burglaries along Pasadena Road.
Thefts from Motor Vehicles
A thief or thieves entered a car outside an apartment complex between Saturday, March 14 and Sunday, March 15, stealing nearly $1,000 in personal property.
The theft happened outside Lenoxplace Apartments at 433 Lenoxplace Circle between 10:45 a.m. on March 14 and 7:30 a.m. the next morning. Four hubcaps and car stereo equipment were stolen.
Larcenies
Thieves stole more than $2,070 in construction equipment from a locked storage bin at 2315 Benson Road, the future site of the Dempsey E. Benton Water Treatment Plant. They cut a gate lock to gain access to the grounds.
Someone stole a silver scooter valued at $80 from a home at 254 Westcroft Drive. The incident occurred between Sunday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 10.
Police responded to a fraud call from a Garner homeowner who says a contractor she paid to put an addition on her home took $9,000 of her money without completing the project. Garner police are investigating the agreement between the two parties and any work done between Oct. 15 and Dec. 18 of last year. They have not charged anyone in connection with the case.
Police arrested a 19-year-old Garner man on Tuesday, March 10 for allegedly assaulting his mother and stepfather and for trying to destroy property at their home. Jonathan Patrick Martin damaged walls, a ceiling fan and a glass door during the dispute, police said. The victims sustained minor injuries and declined hospital treatment. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Martin was intoxicated at the time, according to authorities.Authorities charged Martin with simple assault, assault on a female and two counts of damage to property. As of press time, he is in Wake County jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond.
Fraud
Police are investigating a man who they say took a check from a mailbox and tried to cash it at a local bank. Bank officials at BB&T bank at 301 Vandora Springs Road discovered the stolen check after seeing written revisions on it. “Since it was written over, it looked a little strange to them,” said Sgt. Christopher Clayton, spokesperson for the Garner Police Department. The check was for nearly $600. The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 10.
