The C-SPAN Civic Bus rolled into Garner and made stops at North Garner Middle School and the Southeast Regional Library Friday, June 12.
On the road 11 months of the year, the staff of the bus takes turns travelling throughout the country one week at a time. At any given time, the bus is staffed with two C-SPAN members and a bus driver. The vehicle is divided into the control room just behind the driver and the studio at the rear of the bus, which is secured by a sliding glass partition to ensure sound quality for the transmissions that are done from the mobile studio.
C-SPAN uses the bus as part of its community outreach. There are two C-SPAN buses that promote and enhance the network’s extensive coverage of U.S. politics, history and books, as well as related educational resources. The buses travel to political, educational and other community events across the country where they sometimes serve as studios and production vehicles during live programs.
The buses also welcomed aboard the public, elected officials, journalists and other community leaders to learn more about C-SPAN’s programming.
The C-SPAN civics buses visit social studies classrooms at middle and high schools around the country, engaging educators and students. There are 25,000 teachers throughout the U.S. that use C-SPAN to teach civics in the classroom.
