Cat of the week: Simone

Posted June 30, 2009 at 12:00 pm and filed under Community, Pets.

Simone is a domestic shorthair with a dark brown tabby coat and green eyes. Though all of our animals are special, this 7-year-old is particularly so: She just so happens to be deaf.

Say what? Simone is a domestic shorthair who happens to be deaf.

Simone

Simone must have been abandoned, but who could have let such a sweet cat go – especially a declawed cat? Her foster mom says she is very affectionate and playful. Her favorite toy is a red, fuzzy ball that she must think is a mouse. She chases it, and when she catches it, she carries it in her mouth, meowing as if to say, “Look at what I caught!”

Because Simone is deaf she listens with her big green eyes, following her foster mom’s movements. Maybe also due to her deafness, she has a special, sweet, trusting nature. And she does well in thunderstorms!

She loves all humans immediately; other cats, not so much. The one exception in her foster home is a handsome black male cat. She seems to be enamored and is trying to make friends with him.
