Celebrating Independence Day, the Garner way

Garner’s annual Independence Day celebration will be held Friday, July 3 at Lake Benson Park. The event is free to the public.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Children’s inflatable games will be available from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Local nonprofit groups will provide food and refreshments. The evening concludes with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Attendees can bring lawn chairs, blankets and other picnic supplies.

Johnny White and the Elite Band will play, followed by the N.C. Symphony, a full-time professional orchestra of 68 members.

Because of White Deer Park construction, parking will be limited this year (see map below). The town will provide shuttle buses from Centennial Park, Garner Church of God and New Bethel Baptist Church. Attendees may also park at and walk from Aversboro Road Baptist Church and Aversboro Elementary School.

In addition, Buffaloe Road will also be closed to traffic from Hwy 50 to Aversboro Road. The alternative route will be Hwy 50 to Timber Drive to Aversboro Road.
