Faith Alliance Church marked its first year of Upward Soccer with an end-of-season celebration Saturday, May 30.
Children enjoyed a fun day of soccer relays, prizes and a Slip’N’ Slide. Professional soccer players Hamed Diallo and Joseph Kabwe of the Carolina RailHawks were guest speakers at the event.
Diallo is an international soccer player from France who came to North Carolina in 2008 as a forward. Kabwe, originally from Zimbabwe, shared how he had grown up in the Christian faith and came to the U.S. in 2003 to begin his collegiate career.
After playing three seasons with the Charlotte Eagles, he recently joined the RailHawks as a midfielder. Kabwe said he uses every opportunity, including soccer, to share his faith and encouraged the children to always believe and trust in God.
After speaking, Diallo and Kabwe demonstrated their soccer skills, signed autographs and extended a personal invitation to an upcoming RailHawks game on June 27. Tickets will be made available at no charge to all Upward Soccer players. Children under 6 can attend any game for free. The admission price for ages 6 to 12 is only $5.
The celebration concluded with a cookout and a reminder that Upward Soccer will be returning to Faith Alliance in the fall. “We wanted our child to play Upward Soccer, but the closest league was in Cary,” a parent at the event said. “We were thrilled when Faith Alliance brought the program to our community last fall.”
Upward Soccer is part of Upward Unlimited of Spartanburg, S.C.. The program uses the game to build character and teach about God’s plan of salvation. For more information, visit upward.org.
