Nominations being accepted for James R. Stevens Award

Nominations are being accepted for the 21st annual James R. Stevens Service to Garner Award. The 2009 recognition event will celebrate 21 years of honoring individuals who have made notable contributions to the town of Garner.

The awards lunch will be held at Aversboro Road Baptist Church Saturday, August 22 at 1 p.m.

The Service to Garner Award is presented to individuals in recognition of their contributions and service to the town. The award was established in 1988 and named in honor of James R. Stevens. He was the first recipient. Stevens was a Garner alderman spanning the 1960s and 1980s. He was also active in civic organizations and Garner United Methodist Church.

Nominees should have made contributions to the town over a period of years. Previous winners have been elected officials, town officials, members of the clergy, civic leaders and others who have unselfishly given of their time, talents, money and energy.

Nomination forms may be obtained from the Garner Chamber of Commerce, Garner Town Hall or from Vicki Walton (vwalton001@nc.rr.com). The deadline for submission of nominations is Friday, July 31.
