Photos: Independence Day celebration at Lake Benson

By 7 p.m. traffic heading to Lake Benson Park was backed up on Timber Drive for nearly half a mile.

But Garner residents were patient in their quest to attend the Independence Day Celebration Friday, July 3. Although the town offered extra parking and shuttle buses, police were still at the intersection of Aversboro and Timber to direct the increasing swarm of eager holiday motorists.

It’s no wonder residents were willing to brave the traffic; the local event offered food from nonprofit vendors, inflatable games for kids, music by Johnny White and the Elite Band and the North Carolina Symphony — and of course, fireworks.
