Your letters: Wake’s budget a compromise, not a political game

Wake County’s budget isn’t a football that is to be used by two parties to advance someone’s political advantage. We’re in tough economic times, and I know our families are hurting.

County Manager David Cook did an excellent job putting in place a fiscal budget that reflected prudent fiscal policies – keeping our priorities on education, public service, human services and balanced growth.

I could not support efforts to derail the extensive work undertaken to provide funding for our schools and libraries and vital county services by supporting a politically charged budget plan that would have forced a major tax hike on the people of Wake County.

The compromise plan was built on the principles of protecting vital county services, keeping two libraries open and moving forward with plans to construct the critically needed criminal justice center.

Wake County voters and citizens are demanding accountable, responsible government that serves their needs. We don’t need grandstanding and political games when it comes to passing the county’s budget.

I believe the people can see through the politics and realize holding the line on taxes was the right vote to take on Wake County’s budget.
