A tax to benefit transit service?

State legislators vote on a bill today that would give county commissioners and local voters the chance to approve a ½ cent sales tax increase to fund transit improvements, reports the N&O’s Bruce Siceloff.

In the last year, state transportation officials and railroad advocates have discussed improving public transportation in the Triangle. Railroad planners have proposed a commuter train that would eventually connect Goldsboro to Raleigh, among other routes. Initial plans for that leg have included a stop in Garner.

    The way the Triangle has been developed with so many individual subdivisions in this entire area it would be next to impossible to have mass transit + the parking facilities for commuters cars/vans or trucks. Where would you put them & would the commuters be charged for their parking & who would pay for these options to be built?
    That is another very serious question which needs to be answered before proceeding with any more projects at the tax payers expense.
