ConAgra invites town to remembrance event

ConAgra Foods will hold a dedication ceremony and community picnic to honor the workers and the families affected by the plant explosion June 9 as well as to honor the memory of the three employees who lost their lives that day.

Residents are invited to take part in the event Saturday, Aug. 22 at Lake Benson Park, Shelter One, alongside ConAgra Foods representatives and employees and town leaders. The dedication ceremony will start at 11 a.m. and includes a balloon release. The picnic will kick off at 11:45 a.m. and will offer refreshments and entertainment for attendees.

To receive a bracelet for entry, community members can make a $5 donation to the United Way ConAgra Foods ConAgra Plant Fund. The fund is set up to help the victims and families of the plant explosion. Entry bracelets can be purchased at the event Saturday or at the following locations before the event:

  • Michael’s at White Oak Crossing (Friday, Aug. 21 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Garner Road Family YMCA (Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
