Garner resident Amaka Flynn formally launched her run for one of two open seats on the Town Council Wednesday, Aug. 12. Flynn, who works at the Department of Health and Human Services, says her priorities include revamping the town’s downtown district and strengthening local schools, both of which are tied to future economic development.

The Council’s recent decision to award the town’s trash contract to a local firm despite a recommended bid that was $360,000 lower illustrates the need for fiscal responsibility on the Council, Flynn said.
“I can assure people that if I’m there, their tax dollars will be used efficiently,” Flynn said.
Flynn will be running against incumbents Gra Singleton and Kathy Behringer. Arnie Osborn and Mona Parks have also filed as candidates.
