Parks’ bid is her first for public office. She said she has been urged by others to run in the past but was unable to because of a full civic schedule. When the call came for this cycle, she cleared her plate. Parks aims to improve communication between Town Hall and the community.
“We work for the citizens of Garner,” she said. “Whenever you work for someone you need to be familiar with what they want.”
She said she would like to develop local leadership teams that can serve as liaisons to elected officials. She also wants Garner to embrace its diverse population. She thinks local government should provide more programming, such as cultural fairs, to highlight the varied interests, ancestry and experiences of community members.
“It would say, ‘We care about all our citizens,’” Parks said.
