Answering the call of duty is a monthly goal for the Beta Lambda Sigma Philos of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. This local civic group helps the Garner community through monthly outreach efforts.

When the sorority heard of the supply needs at Garner Magnet High School, they wanted to know how they could help.

The school provided the civic group with a teacher’s needs list compiled by the PTSA. The list included Kleenexes and hand sanitizer to help in the prevention of the H1N1 virus. The supplies will be placed in the classrooms for students, teachers and staff to use in their efforts to curb the spread of the flu.

The group presented the supplies to Principal Drew Cook on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The sorority’s purpose is to unite women, help develop and support educational and cultural work and to take part in activities that strengthen the sorority and improve civic and community conditions at the local, regional and national level.
