Two jazz giants will be at The Prime Smokehouse next weekend.

Tom “Jamaica Funk” Browne and Barbara “Atlantic Starr” Weathers will help kick off the restaurant’s “Icons of Jazz” series Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3, at 8 and 9:30 p.m. both nights. Seating for the 8 p.m. show will begin at 7 p.m.

Reservations are required. The cost is $30 per person and includes a candlelight dinner (see below for menu) in addition to the performance.

Trumpeter Tom Browne is perhaps best known for his hit “Funkin’ for Jamaica,” but other releases, such as “Browne Sugar,” “Love Approach” and “Magic” also earned him gold records. Browne will be signing copies of his CDs following each performance.

Barbara Weathers is the formerly lead singer for the group Atlantic Starr. Weathers sang on two of Atlantic Starr’s biggest hits, “Always” and “Secret Lovers.” After leaving Atlantic Starr for a solo career, she was produced by Maurice White of Earth, Wind and Fire and other renowned artists.
