Several weeks ago, The Garner Citizen reported that “Janice Stephenson for Town Council” signs were spotted around Garner.

Not too long after these signs started to appear, Stephenson announced she is running as a write-in candidate.
Now, the former Alderwoman confirmed that she is running for Town Council as a write-in candidate.
Stephenson joins five candidates, including two incumbents, vying for two open seats. Voters must write in her name on Nov. 3; it will not be on the ballot.
Stephenson says several issues impelled her to enter the race, including the relocation of Town Hall, the garbage contract controversy and the creation of a community center or YMCA.
The N&O picked up the story this weekend (see “Write-in candidate in Garner”). “All of a sudden, I had a list of things I certainly could not do anything about from the outside,” she told the paper.
Stephenson served two four-year terms on the Board of Aldermen, from 1989-1993 and 1999-2003.
