Tart staying neutral in runoff

Posted October 15, 2009 at 5:50 pm and filed under Education, Headlines.

The N&O’s WakeEd blog reports that Horace Tart was contacted by both John Tedesco and Cathy Truitt for his support, but Tart says he will not endorse either candidate for now.

Meanwhile, the blog notes that the Independent Weekly, which had previously endorsed Tart, is now backing Truitt.

“Although antidiversity, [Truitt] has spoken in favor of basing school board decisions on good data and an understanding of ‘best practices’ elsewhere,” the endorsement says. “In short, Truitt promises to look before she leaps.”

I bet that Indy staffer would change his or her tune if he or she knew Truitt TRIED to get the Republican backing and wasn’t able to secure it… Speaking as a registered Dem, the Independent Weekly’s liberal zealousness borders on the verge of irresponsible journalism. They should stick to covering Durham politics and abstain from endorsing candidates in districts the paper rarely supports.
