Tonight’s Town Hall meeting starts at 7 p.m. North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall will drop by to administer the oath of office for Town Council members Kathy Behringer and Gra Singleton, who were reelected to the Council last month. The Council will also vote on a new mayor pro tem.
The town is dedicating the ceremony to former Mayor Don Rohrbaugh, who died last month after a long battle with leukemia.
Also on the docket:
- The town is looking into applying for two grants using federal stimulus funds. The first covers two years of salary and benefits for firefighters at Fire Station 4 when it opens next year. The second is for retrofitting neighborhoods with energy efficiency improvements. This grant is distributed by the U.S. Department of Energy and would be between $5 and 75 million. Town staff are interested in designating any DOE funds toward North Garner.
- The town has selected an engineering firm to move forward with plans on the Hwy 50 sewer assessment project, which will allow more than a dozen properties to connect to city sewage.
