Members of the Garner Police Department and their families gathered at the Garner Senior Center for an annual holiday dinner Thursday, Dec. 17. A tradition that goes back many years, the dinner is open to current and retired members of the police department.

Retired chief of police Percy McIver served 19 years at the helm of the department; and now his son, Sgt. Mike McIver, is also serving the Garner community. Officer David Taylor’s mother-in-law has been coming to the dinner annually and is probably the most traveled of the guests: She comes each year from Washington and actively participates in the dinner. Her turkey dressing and gravy goes quickly.
The dinner serves as a break from the daily grind that officers and support staff face throughout the year and gives them an opportunity to celebrate another year as a community family.
