The Town of Garner has undergone a cyber makeover.

Late last week, Town Hall quietly rolled out a new redesign of its Web site. The new site offers a cleaner, sleeker version of the town’s previous homepage with a series of user-friendly navigation buttons and a new feature that will make it easier for residents to register for Parks and Recreation programs.

Similar to Choosegarner.com, a marketing site put together with the town’s Chamber of Commerce, the revamped site shares a blue and gold color scheme. The new site was developed by the information technology department with help from WingSwept, a local IT consulting firm.

The upgrade will be noticeable right away, town officials said. Users can now make online payments within the town’s site instead of being directed to a third party.

“It is going to be easier and quicker for people to use,” said Town Manager Hardin Watkins.

The previous site had been in place for several years. The town integrated feedback received over time into the new design to make it user-friendly, according to town staff.

The town is hoping the new site will make a good first impression on visitors.

“We wanted the new site to have a cleaner, neater look, a fresh approach,” Watkins said.

For now, the town’s technology department is working to finish making sure the page’s links are live.

“We’re still in a sort of soft-opening phase,” Watkins said.
