Elsie Mae Broughton Stephens, 91, wife of the late Craton G. Stephens Jr., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the Carolina House Retirement Home in Morehead City, N.C.
Born in Garner, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin Broughton and Alice Penny Broughton. She attended Garner public schools and Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh. Mrs. Stephens was a longtime member of Garner United Methodist Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and retired as an administrative secretary with N.C. State University.
She is survived by her sons, Craton G. Stephens III (and wife Teresa) of Rutherfordton, and Richard B. Stephens (and wife Liv) of Pine Knoll Shores; grandchildren, Amber Rogers (and husband Patrick) of Rocky Mount, David Stephens (and wife Jennifer) of Elon College, Ainsley Stephens of Raleigh and Emily Stephens of Asheville; and great-grandchildren, Miller and McKenna Rogers. She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Price, and brother, John Craven Broughton.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Jan. 30 from 3-5 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. A graveside service will be held 11 Monday, Feb. 1 at Montlawm Memorial Park in Raleigh with the Rev. Robert Redmond officiating.
