Every dog has his day, and Garner Police K-9 Bear had his on Wednesday, Jan. 20 when he assisted in capturing a robbery suspect.
Officer Sonny Roberson and Bear responded to a 911 call Jan. 20 involving a suspicious person outside Westchester Apartments about 8:40 p.m. Police allege that Robert Jerome Henderson, 21, entered an apartment and demanded money from the victim, Erron Walker, at gun point. Walker gave Henderson money.
Roberson and Bear located Henderson in the Forest Hills Shopping Center parking lot. Authorities said Henderson saw the officer and ran. Roberson released Bear, who helped corral the suspect. Henderson was not bitten by Bear, but he threw down the gun, which discharged, and surrendered.
The gun and the money were recovered, and police charged Henderson with first degree burglary, armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a felon and resist, delay and obstruct. Henderson was taken to the Wake County jail where he is being held in lieu of a $55,000 bond.
