Garner’s homeschool community wants Wake County to know how much it depends on Southeast Regional library. A group of local homeschoolers plans to protest outside SERL for the fourth straight day this afternoon, from 4 to 5 p.m.
The protests have received attention from media outlets such as ABC-11 and The Garner Citizen. Garner Mayor Ronnie Williams and Commissioner Lindy Brown have shown support for the home-school parents and children, with Williams directing the group to acquire a permit to protest.
The homeschoolers have planned another for Wednesday, Feb. 3 in front of SERL.

Good morning everyone! Hope you’re enjoying the snow. I’ve just added our videos for our protest on the Facebook group page. Look at all those little cuties!!
Garners Homeschool group is correct.
I home educated four beautiful children in the South East part of the United States and we practically lived at the library. Three of those children went on to college, one is a preachers wife and has a children’s ministry in a church in Illinois. Child number three is in college and is majoring in music ministry in a local college in North Carolina. Child number two is a teacher in Connecticut and is asked to repeat her imaginative lessons plans for preschool because her boss likes her ideas and ability to relate to the children. This is a young adult of mine that did a report on the Czar of Russia and the Romanoff family at 12 years old through the public library. Child number four is about to start a video production company that teaches children and people in general morals and standards. This is all because the South East region of United States gave me the ability to privately educate my own children along with other Home Educators. Wake County, please DO NOT close your library. Your library is an integral part of their’s and other families educational futures. HSLDA is located in Purcellville, Virginia. I believe none of the Attorney’s at their organization would be happy to hear of a library being closed, but would probably advise Wake County to upgrade the library. Home school groups are often at libraries. Ours were used for science and chemistry lessons, sports meetings, legal classes, political campaigns, insurance research etc. I hope this letter helps.
