Once again, the time has rolled around to start a new semester. This is my fourth semester as a high school student. It also marks my half-way point. After this semester is done, I’ll have four more semesters before I graduate high school.

My freshman year, I never thought time could fly this fast. Now, it feels like hardly any time has gone by since the first time I walked in those doors. It’s been almost two years, though.

This semester I have honors biology with Ms. Lawrence, drama II with Mr. White, honors English II with Ms. Olin and honors civics and economics with Mr. Harper. So far, I love every single one of my classes. Going into the semester, I thought I would hate biology and civics and economics. I also thought I would love drama and English. Well, now after a week, I love them all.

Drama is my absolute favorite. I walk to class every day, wondering what we’ll do next. It’s the class that I can’t wait to get to every day.

My next favorite would actually have to be biology or civics. In both classes I pick up information faster than I thought I would. I’ve always like science, but I’ve never been a big fan of history classes. They are usually so boring to me. Civics is the exception to this rule: Mr. Harper makes the class fun for us and reviews in a more subtle way. He’s always asking us random questions, and we don’t actually know we’re reviewing, but we are. That’s what I love about his class.

Biology is a really small class; we only have 16 students. That fact alone is a reason to love the class. Ms. Lawrence is an amazing teacher. She isn’t subtle, but I think I like that. The work we do in her class is exactly what we’re going to be tested on.

My least favorite class is English. That really surprises me and many other people. As a writer and reader, most people think I would always love English. I also thought that was true, until this year. I love Ms. Olin as a teacher, and I don’t mind the people in my class. For some reason, I just have a hard time connecting to the class. I’m sure eventually I will connect to her and her classes. For right now, I just have to work harder to get my English work done.

When most people see my class load, they feel bad for me. I have three honors classes and one class that’s actually pretty hard. I understand why they feel bad, but they shouldn’t; I love my classes. Knowing I have this many hard classes keeps me focused and on track. I think if I had a more slack schedule, I would put off doing things because it’s not as important.

I’m loving my schedule right now. I know this is going to be a fun and interesting semester. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
