When it comes to closing Garner’s library, community organizers want to make sure they don’t miss a word of public discussion from county commissioners.

Organizers of the Facebook page “Keep Southeast Library Open” are reaching out to local leaders and patrons to help ensure that affected groups are represented at all of the county commissioner meetings until the budget is adopted later this spring.

The effort is fairly ambitious. For one thing, county staff’s recommendation to offer the branch as a possible budget cut has angered a range of local interests encompassing everyone from real estate agents to educators. There are also about a dozen board meetings between now and June 7, the public hearing on the budget. That includes the work session scheduled for today at 2 p.m.
