The following incidents were reported to the Garner Police Department between Tuesday, Jan. 19 and Sunday, Jan. 24:

SBI takes over fire embezzlement probe

The Garner Police have handed over the embezzlement investigation of more than $300,000 from the Garner Volunteer Fire-Rescue Department to the State Bureau of Investigation. A full criminal investigation is now underway. Town officials expect the SBI investigation to take several weeks to complete. The independent auditing firm for GVFRD and GVFRD personnel and GVFRD board members are cooperating with investigators from the SBI, town of Garner and Wake County. As first reported by The Garner Citizen, the amount of missing GVFRD funds appears to be much more than initially suspected, exceeding $300,000.

Robberies

Someone used a handgun to rob the Subway restaurant at 1478 Garner Station Blvd. about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21. The robber stole $700 in cash from the business, according to police reports.

Other incidents

A thief or thieves broke into a vehicle parked outside a home on the 100 block of Solheim Lane between 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 and 7 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21. A portable DVD player valued at $80 was stolen.

A thief broke into a vehicle parked outside a home on the 100 block of Dragon Fly Court between 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 and 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21. The thief stole an iPod and a GPS unit valued at $450.

A thief or thieves broke into a vehicle parked outside the Ole Time Barbeque Restaurant at 1701 Pinewinds Drive between 3:50 p.m. and 4:30 pm. Friday, Jan. 22. They stole more than $600 worth of personal property, including a leather purse and a digital camera.

Someone stole a license plate from a vehicle parked on the 100 block of Scarlet Green between noon Friday, Jan. 22 and 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.
