A local sixth grader has created a line of bookmarks, which will be sold at Honeybeez & Co.

Maya Palmer got the idea for her line, called Bookworm, when she was in fifth grade and made flower bookmarks after reading “Daisy Head Maize” by Dr. Seuss. She showed her parents, who told her she should sell them.

“Since I enjoyed reading so much and knew how much it had helped me and how important it was, I decided to use Bookworm to help me encourage other kids to read,” Maya said. “I think that my bookmarks make reading fun because you have a cool accessory.”

Maya recently created a new line of Bookworm products called Earthworm, which are made from recycled parts, to encourage kids to care for their planet. Each bookmark, including the regular Bookworm line, has a tag that states three ways kids can help the earth.

“I hope that this will help increase the amount of people who care about saving the planet,” Maya said.

Honeybeez & Co. is a local gift gallery that showcases local artists and vendors. It is located on Hwy 70 on the right side of the Garner TV and Appliance building.
