Participants in a Wake County Domestic Violence Task Force marched in downtown Raleigh Tuesday, March 9 honor the memory of Doreen Powell of Garner, who police say was shot to death by husband Daniel Powell Feb. 25.

Doreen Powell’s death was the first domestic violence-related homicide of 2010 in Wake County. Last March, the task force held a similar march for June Carlyle, who was shot by her ex-boyfriend Jose Manuel Valdez-Masias. Carlyle’s death was the first domestic violence-related homicide of 2009; both occurred in Garner.
